Dr. Corigan Thetford Smothers earned a Master of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in Physiology from Meharry Medical College. Corigan’s thesis work examined the role of ionotropic glutamate receptors in hippocampal neurotoxicity following chronic ethanol exposure. His postdoctoral work focused on discovering the molecular mechanisms of ethanol inhibition in N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors and characterization of novel glycine-activated GluN1/GluN3 receptors. Corigan has broad experience in molecular biology, electrophysiology, and the role of genetic mutations in mouse behavior to alcohol.
