ANZLAA conference
Thank you for visiting us at ANZLAA and for engaging in open and constructive discussions as we continue to develop and improve our services moving forward. A special thanks goes to ANZLAA President Kiri Collins and AAMRI CEO Saraid Billiards for their valuable time, as we look forward to collaboration with both organisations. We value the feedback we receive from the Australian scientific community and are making every effort to be as transparent as possible. As part of this, we are planning to share additional information on our website pertaining to animal housing, feed, bedding, enrichment, pre-shipment checks etc.
Digitisation & IVC update
We are happy to inform you that 100% of the mice and 100% of the rats have now been digitally entered into our Geneoz Vivarium Management System (VMS), which allows us to track each animal, including their location, birth date, full genealogical history and all husbandry procedures performed.
All mice have been moved to individually ventilated cages (IVCs) to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare and biosecurity. The rat areas are currently undergoing reconfiguration to accommodate the new IVC racks. While 42% of the rats are still housed in open-top cages, we are happy to report that wire-bottom cages have been completely phased out. We will keep you updated on the progress.
Snapshot of animal numbers
Now that our entire Vivarium is digitised, we are pleased to share our animal numbers to provide you with an idea of the colony sizes. Please note that this represents the total number of animals and not those available for sale. In upcoming newsletters, we will share numbers regarding weekly weans, which will indicate animal availability once we achieve a stable supply state. Currently, many colonies are still awaiting the availability of weaned animals as part of the new breeding plans we have implemented. We anticipate an improvement in availability for most strains in September, including C57BL/6J, BALB/c and Sprague Dawley.
If you require a substantial quantity of the smaller strains, please contact us as soon as possible, as we may need to expand the colony size to fulfill your order.
Please see the current availability of animals on the ordering portal. The following strains have now been added on the portal: PVG/c, Wistar Kyoto and CBH nude. Please note that we are currently in the process of expanding the CBH nude colony and there will only be occasional availability of females not used for breeding. We anticipate more CBH nudes being available in January.
Health reports
Our sentinel program adheres to the standards set by the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA). Live animals are sent to an external testing laboratory, Cerberus Sciences, for specific pathogen testing on a quarterly or annual basis. Quarterly health reports are now available on our website for areas Oz1, Oz2 and Oz3. Please consult our biosecurity page for information on the strains housed in each area. The remaining reports for rats (Oz4) and BALB/c (Oz5) will be provided as soon as the results become available.
